In order to achieve this seemingly impossible goal, I had to overcome a severe fear of cycling, brought on by crashing my bike (more than once!), and learn correct breathing techniques so that I could get from one side of the pool to the other without feeling like I’m having a heart attack.Totally doable, right?! So, how did I end up doing my first triathlon?
“Get comfortable at being uncomfortable”
This basically sums up why I decided to do a swim only event. Since I am new to open water swimming I am taking every opportunity to swim in a dam, river, ocean or canal. Its also so beneficial to be in a race environment as much as possible.
Cape Town Marathon 12km Peace Trail was my first official trail in 2016. I remember the nerves
and excitement for the unknown that was ahead. For some reason this year, I had the same
feelings on the start line despite having done the race before.
